Your trip to Labuan Bajo is definitely not complete without sailing or Living on Board (LOB). Most tourist attractions in Labuan Bajo are on or near the water, so you need a boat to get there. So a LOB trip is definitely the best option!
But which destinations can you travel to while sailing or Living on Board (LOB)? Let’s take a look at the following lists!
1. Kelor Island
On the first day of sailing Labuan Bajo, you will stop at Kelor Island. Getting to the island requires crossing water. Upon arrival, you will experience the natural beauty of Kelor Island, which is almost comparable to Bukit Cinta, with a green grass hill against the background of the East Nusa Tenggara Sea. It takes 15-20 minutes of hiking over rocky and sandy terrain to reach the island.
Therefore, it is recommended to wear comfortable sandals or walking shoes on this island. Take it easy, even if the hike continues, because the exhaustion of the climb is rewarded with breathtaking views.
2. Manjarite Island
After hiking on Kelor Island, you will experience the amazing underwater scenery on Manjarite Island. Manjarite Island is uninhabited land in Labuan Bajo and the wave currents are weak. We assure you that at an average depth of 5-8 meters you can enjoy the wonderful underwater landscape of Flores with many living corals and attractive fish.
3. Kalong Island
The best way to end the day is to visit Kalong Island near Komodo National Park. It is called Kalong Island because you will see many exotic trees which are the main habitat of kalongs or giants. Kalong Island is another uninhabited island that steals the most attention from tourists because it has the most beautiful sunset views in Labuan Bajo.
In addition to the bats scattered in the evening sky, you will be spoiled by the expanse of the Flower Sea with the savannah mountains. The best time to visit the island for skyline photography is around 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
4. Padar Island
You start the activity on the second day living on board in Labuan Bajo before sunrise going up to Padar Island. Padar Island is the third largest island in the Komodo National Park area after Komodo and Rinca Island. You have to climb about 800 steps to reach the top of the island and see the sunrise from there.
Remember to wear comfortable shoes and remember to bring your own drink so you don’t get dehydrated. The best time to visit this island is during sunrise. Other times it’s fine because Padar Island is so gorgeous everywhere!
5. Pink Beach
The beauty of Rose Beach is so enchanting, even from a distance, the sand of this beach looks so beautiful. Not only does Rosa Beach have a unique color of a typical beach, but the sea water is so clean that it seems tempting to jump in.
Have you ever wondered why sand is pink? The pink color of this sand comes from red pieces of coral. So beautiful, isn’t it? When visiting this beach, we recommend bringing a swimsuit and remember to wear sunscreen!
6. Komodo Island
Komodo island is no doubt familiar to you. Komodo dragons can be spotted in their natural habitat on this island. Since Komodo dragons are wild animals with poisonous saliva, you must keep a distance of 300 meters when you encounter them. So always be alert!
7. Taka Makassar
Taka Makassar is one of the islands that can be seen when the sea water recedes. Because of its crescent shape, Taka Makassar has its own characteristics. The bottom is also a haven for crabs, anemones, bacteria and other small marine life, including coral reefs that are still beautiful. The best time to visit Taka Makassar is in the afternoon or evening as there is natural light from the sun for photography.
8. Manta Point
One of the best places to see manta rays (also known as eastern Indonesian rays) is Manta Point. When snorkeling or diving at Manta Point, it is recommended to keep a distance of 3 meters, because if you get too close, the Manta will feel alarmed and swim away faster.
9. Kanawa Island
Kanawa Island is privately managed by local Italians, but is also open to the public for an entrance fee of about Rp. 50,000 to 100,000 per ship. The Kanawa Island Pier Bridge has become iconic, so many tourists take photos on the bridge. On this island you can also snorkel and meet a variety of amazing fish. The best time to visit Kanawa Island is at sunrise or sunset.
